Summary

Life gets pretty boring when you can beat the snot out of any villain with just one punch。

Nothing about Saitama passes the eyeball test when it comes to superheroes, from his lifeless expression to his bald head to his unimpressive physique。 However, this average-looking guy has a not-so-average problem—he just can’t seem to find an opponent strong enough to take on!

Surrounded by heroes, Garo finds himself in a tight spot。 But despite the great numbers, he defeats the heroes one by one with his unmatched strength before Genos comes rushing in!

My favorite of this series so far。

I love how goofy and serious everything is。

Ah, it’s been a while… Coming back to OPM now makes me realise how out of this world the art and fighting sequences are。 It flows like water。 Best of the best。

Sara

I love the anime and want to continue the story with the manga and this volume did not disappoint! I love it so much。

Wrociłem do OPM po krótkiej przerwie。 Ten i kilka następnych tomów trzymają bardzo wysoki poziom, zwłaszcza jeśli chodzi o rozwój postaci (Garou)。

Saitama is a loveable character who really doesn’t know his own strength。 His oblivious nature and continuous ability to not notice the story progressing around him is funny and enjoyable to read。

One of, if not, the best issue so far。 I never thought I would be rooting against some of my favorite characters like Genos and Bang, even if it was only for a short fight between them and Garou。 Genos reminds me of Metal Gear Rising, which is awesome。

Check out my youtube channel where I review bookshttps://www。youtube。com/channel/UCg4e。。。Another fun book in the series。 This one is building up to a battle between heroes and monsters which hopefully happens soon。 The main character is back to fighting monsters which he had taken a break from in the last few books。 Check out my youtube channel where I review bookshttps://www。youtube。com/channel/UCg4e。。。Another fun book in the series。 This one is building up to a battle between heroes and monsters which hopefully happens soon。 The main character is back to fighting monsters which he had taken a break from in the last few books。 。。。more

4 stars。Despite everything, I really love Garo and want him to be okay。 I really like his friendship with the kid who is a fan of the heroes and I hope that this isn't the end of that。 Also I love Saitama's never ending anger at the fact that he can't beat King at video games。 4 stars。Despite everything, I really love Garo and want him to be okay。 I really like his friendship with the kid who is a fan of the heroes and I hope that this isn't the end of that。 Also I love Saitama's never ending anger at the fact that he can't beat King at video games。 。。。more

This was a really good volume filled with action, and amazing character work for the best villain in the series so far, Garou! He might be one of the best characters in the series overall in my opinion。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Okay, let's boot up this Goodreads account I never use to do some quick venting about this series。 Because as enjoyable as Vol。 16 is (stunning art as expected, Garou remains an interesting foil for the other characters), it feels a little bit like a turning point for my experience with this manga。 Vol 1-9 are a true delight, not just for its deadpan main character, but for its playful nature (e。g。 Genos' backstory which crams mountains of text into tiny font across two panels)。 Saitama and ONE Okay, let's boot up this Goodreads account I never use to do some quick venting about this series。 Because as enjoyable as Vol。 16 is (stunning art as expected, Garou remains an interesting foil for the other characters), it feels a little bit like a turning point for my experience with this manga。 Vol 1-9 are a true delight, not just for its deadpan main character, but for its playful nature (e。g。 Genos' backstory which crams mountains of text into tiny font across two panels)。 Saitama and ONE are a great writing match because they push each other to challenge the traditional Shonen format。 How do you keep a story going when the hero can never be beaten? For a while, it looked like ONE had found an answer。But ever since the tournament arc began, that triumph has been slowly dissipating。 Lord Boros represented a kind of physical endpoint for Saitama: a sign to the audience that even a creature with God-like abilities was never going to be a problem。 By defeating him, ONE signalled that the story for Saitama could not build to any kind of physical trial。 Instead, the narrative was going to have to find something different。So far, I'm not impressed with the answer。 It's enjoyable, for sure, and with some real highlights。 Garou is a neat villain not just because he's powerful (the manga wisely keeps reminding us that Saitama will beat him in an instant if it comes to that), but because he's one of the few characters that's granted depth beyond the level of a gag。 Vol。 16 is the epitome of this, as his fight against the strongheaded Class A heroes begins to turn the audience's sympathy in his direction。 It makes Genos's sudden appearance all the more interesting, pulling our rooting interest one way then another。But at what cost? ONE is clearly interested in the narrative he is setting up, and is also aware that Saitama's presence will likely end it before it is allowed to start。 But instead of finding a way to merge the two together in a more satisfying way (or pick a different storyline altogether), he picks the disappointing path of sidelining Saitama altogether。 Now, I know this is a common criticism of later OPM, and I'm also aware that fans take serious umbrage with this line of thinking。 However, as fun as the side-cast is, I'm not convinced they can sustain the story being told。 From the start, OPM is about how one character can alter the fabric of what is expected from these stories。 His very presence forces the series to grapple with certain questions: What does it mean to be a hero? Is being the best at something a curse or a gift? The side cast are funny, and in some cases even compelling (Fubuki is cool because her domineering approach to hierarchy is given a tragic background, as she lives in the shadow of Tornado and Amai Mask), but they also feel standard: none of them force this world to change。 As a result, the more Saitama exits the narrative, the less chance ONE gives this story to reach its full potential。 Instead, the series plunges further and further into battle territory, where arcs grind to a halt in the service of BAMs, KATHOOMs and SWSHs。I might pick another volume up at some point, because these are a fun collector's hobby, the artwork is gobsmacking and I'm usually guaranteed at least one terrific moment, but I think that compulsive drive to keep going may end here。 。。。more

Accidentally read the volume before this without realizing。 Kinda ruined the story line but even so it was nice to see other heroes and their struggles。
